Module 2

Search Engines
Search engines are very important in today's society.  Our text book talks about 3 guidelines when teaching internet skills.  Teachers first should "make assignments that require a thoughtful search", "teach students to search with keywords", and finally "show them how they can use advanced search tools to narrow their searches" (Roblyer, 2016, p. 184).

Website Evaluation Video
This video will be relevant in my classroom because it will help my students be able to add videos to their blogs.  As a visual learner, I have enjoyed watching the video and learning more about technology.  As students are given independent research, this video will guide them in adding videos to their research.

Favorite Websites:
One website that is great for teachers, parents and learners is pbskids.org.  The students will be involved in this website and not even realize they are learning.  From videos, to games, to learning this website is a great resource.
  Another great website is  www.starfall.com
Starfall is a website designed to help students who are struggling in their academics.  Education is the most important part of a students life.

Online Safety and Security:
There are many important rules to online safety and security.  The one that I found as the most important was online predators.  "Many times young people tend to believe everything they hear and read"(Roblyer, 2016, p. 175).  We as teachers, need to educate students that it is not okay to believe everything that you hear, read or see.

  1. Meg, your blog looks like it belongs in a classroom (which is such a good thing!). I think you make some very interesting points throughout your post. One thing I definitely agree with you on is in regards to online safety and security. Students should be fully educated in the dangers of the cyber world before they should be allowed to roam the Internet on their own. One thing to instruct them on is to never "provide their complete names, addresses, or telephone numbers to any stranger they "meet" on the Internet", whether they believe it is someone they can trust or not (Roblyer, 2016, p. 175). Students should always remain cautious these days because too often computers can be hacked or contain viruses that will override the whole computer. In your blog, you stated that teachers should educate their students to never believe everything they hear or read. How would you go about teaching this to the students in your classroom? Can you think of any ideas on class activities that you could do to teach online safety and security?
